Another Wisdom Angel

This in an angel by Handerson Abbott Thayer, and is in the Smithsonian. He was know to use his children as models and so his daughter could be another one of our wisdom angels as we study Proverbs this month. We are almost at the end of the month but there are many Proverbs still to be covered and I am reading the book, along with our study.

Hatred stirs conflict, but love covers wrongs. Proverbs 10:12, I am more familiar with the KJV, using strife and sins, but I like to study other versions, it is just that I was brought up with basically only that version, even though others were out there. I was an adult and in need of knowing things for myself that brought me to study other versions, Hebrew and Greek. That is wisdom to study and learn from the Holy Spirit.

That is how you will know the truth that sets you free. Jesus will let His Spirit teach you and bring you His peace. And that is the most valuable gift there is love, joy and peace go together. He is all of them. Happiness will come and go but Jesus is our joy.

Let’s think about that Proverb, there is just no room in a heart that holds His love for hate. No way we will thrive in a world of strive, we will be hurt and oppressed and depressed. I see and pray for so many Christians who are struggling and suffering, we need to just be still and let Him God.

Stop the pettiness of what version of the Bible we read or what we wear of look like. Jesus is seeking souls in these last day and the pressure is on, let Him take it of with wisdom and grace. Don’t stir conflict, choose wise words, love covers wrongs.

And that is not willful sin and abuse of His grace, He know hearts, it is the one that remains in love and consistently having a teachable spirit, ready to respond to His voice and His word and walk in love.

Wisdom Angel

96044Workshop of Francesco de Mura, Italian (Neapolitan), 1696–1782

I thought we needed an angel of wisdom today and this one appears to crowning a lady with a floral diadem. Perhaps, it is to make her a crown of beauty in the Lord. Isaiah 62:3 The Lord crowns us with things like tender mercies so why not, wisdom?

Proverbs 7:4 says to call her our sister. But today’s verse is FOr the Lord gives wisdom and from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6.

This painting is at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, but is not currently on display and this is a detail from it. It is by Italian painter Francesco de Mura, 1696-1772. The painting is larger and the woman and angel are above and to the left of a man outstretched, wit a robe partially covering him.

And while all angels have some sort of assignment, it is enough to pray. You don’t have to know everything, the Holy Spirit will give you wisdom and since we know that we are to avoid any false practices.

That would be wisdom and a crown from Him placed by an angel. There are more good ones than bad. If He is for us who is against us? Romans 8:31. I pray for you to have, knowledge, wisdom and understanding.

Guardians of Rest

This image fades a little as it is enlarged, but is still recognizable as angels watching a sleeping child or young woman, possible ill. God wants very much for us to allow Him to be God and enter His rest of faith.

Rest is essential for healing and health, and recovering it. So I’m giving your a verse to meditate on as you rest today in His love.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Psalm 37:7

I coupled one of my mother posts for May with the following proverb, this one fits nicely to to remind us of His rest and the presence of His Spirit and angels.

A generous person will prosper and whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25

Rest is important and generous people will also give others time to rest, to pray, or just nap.

Be blessed with rest today. Rebecca Jones

Goodness and Mercy

Sometimes people think of goodness and mercy as angels, I suppose they could be. What a lovely pair watching over this mother and child.

A Psalm of David / Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy, ( angels or not ) shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

And goodness and mercy are paired today with gold and silver, wisdom and insight. While I  love to pray the Lord’s Prayer, the 23rd Psalm and 91st, the Proverbs offer us God’s wisdom through Solomon and also very likely Bathsheeba.

We could pick from  any number of them and they have been our study all month, and we like a cheerful heart, and kind words, we must also seek wisdom, and who more wise that our Heavenly Father.

How much better is the getting of wisdom than gold and get insight rather than silver. Proverbs 16:16

Faithful Guardian

Although I don’t have the name of artist on this one, it is another powerful guardian angel depiction although we can’t underestimate the female figures and the softness, this is a strong angel. Exodus 28:20 says, Behold, I send an angel before you. ”

Indeed, since God exists in eternity, He has seen past, present and future and can redeem us fully. If He has seen our lives and eternity, surely, He has sent angels before us and has them encamped or surrounding His saints, which is any believer.

The child is learning and it is a good idea to teach children from the proverbs, about angelic protection and especially about the love of Jesus.

The fear / reverence of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.  Proverbs 9:10

Gentle Answer

A gentle answer turns away wrath. Proverbs 15:1

How often do we need to choose an gente or soft answer to combat wrath or anger. We don’t have to fight fire with fire but with the Spirit. We don’t even have to fight at all with victory in Jesus, we just have to stand. We are told in Exodus 14:14 just let God while we are being still.

That is reiterated in Psalm 46:10. Why can’t we be still? Why can’t we know God? Jesus was a master at being calm. Even in all the accusations and cruelty against Him, He opened not His mouth. We don’t have to back answer as we say in the south, have the last word, or be rude and childish even petty.

Grumbling and complaining is hard work, I’d rather have His peace, even if I stay clear of those who don’t get it an just want to stir up strife, envy, every evil work.

The Bible teaches us a lot out how we speak and especially the Proverbs, they are beneficial, and it is never to early learn them or too late. All ages will benefit from God’s wisdom.

The angel and the dove are good representations of God’s love. We’ll never really know how gentle He is until we get to heaven and probably be disappoint that we didn’t always listen to Him or accept that soon, but He will wipe all tears.

The Lord is a gentleman, He will not force love on you. But wouldn’t we want gentleness and all the other qualities of a loving Father, in our husbands and families?

Surrounded By Angels

Angelic-Hierarchy-painting

This is a painting of three levels of the hierarchy of angels. I thought it was a great choice for a post call Surrounded By Angels, and we are whether we know it or not or even believe it or not.

God has innumerable angels of many ranks and has charged them with assisting us. And while Psalm 91 says they bear us up in their hands if we dash our foot against a stone, and I’m sitting here with a toe that is black from a fall, I know they probably kept me from being hurt worse. The enemy of our soul would steal, kill, or destroy. And he causes fear, but we should fear or reverence God more, not fear, like afraid, but a healthy awe and respect.

So angels are all around and we. as believers should expect divine intervention and angelic assistance. In the wake of so many catastrophes from avalanches to tornadoes. I can tell you about a storm in a neighboring state, a baby was found in the debris, in a dresser drawer, I believe, placed there by an angel.

If you look as some of the old paintings, the sketches, the description of chains or bands of angels, you will see a literal myriads of them too many to count, standing wing to wing and side by side.

They are a phalanx of angels and a symphony orchestrating the wicked one’s defeat. The demons flee, trembling, wailing, screaming in terror, a cacophony of enemy voices. Thunderous at times, and quiet in worship, angels are beautifully singing His praises. Don’t you like the word phalanx? It is in reference to the ancient Greeks, an army, a group of heavily armed infantry formed in ranks and files close and deep, with shields and swords joined, and for the purpose of defence or attack.

Remember Elisha’s servant, Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17.

Sometimes, I feel silly and think how ridiculous it is to be afraid of anything with that kind of protection, but it happens to the best of us, and the rest of us need to know that angels are there to look into salvation, for they don’t need it.

Our proverb today is, ” The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise. ” Proverbs 11:30 When I was young, I saw the people who would go door to door and witness, I never was into that but I know my words are there to guide you to the love of Jesus Christ, and I pray that through the Spirit and intercession, many will be saved.

Jesus came to die for our sins, He wants to be your Lord, healer, deliverer, whatever you may need. Angels even ministered to Him, and He has them everywhere, at the ready to bring people to Him. And He wants you to see heaven. Praying angels everywhere they need to be before the enemy attacks. Over ever sick person, the defeated and despondent, lift your head and let Him open your eyes to His angels, whether you see them or not that are there. We are surrounded by angels.

Golden Wings

Isn’t she lovely? Surely, she is a messenger with a pleasant voice and word from heaven. She is here to share a proverb today as we continue our study.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

This is one I want to be sure and remember, I have need healing in my bones, and pleasant words, well the Bible is full of them to pray over yourself and others, to read and speak into our daily lives. Jesus even spoke of healing words.

And we all like a something sweet don’t we? How about something sweet to the soul. God’s love is just that. His words are even better that the finest chocolates or most luscious dessert.

And she is the backdrop of my blog, see her wings. Have a sweet day in Him and remember to speak pleasant word to someone today. Rebecca Jones

Guardian

These guardian angels were so popular in reproductions in churches and Sunday School teachings, they hung in classrooms, were printed on cards and are still popular even now. this one is not a lot different depicting another type of foot bridge.

While that can be metaphorical today, it was a common routine in the 19th century for rural areas to have foot bridges over creek and streams, even in my own family, I have an ancestor who fell off one. So people needed guardians then and now.

It continues with our month on mothers and Proverbs, our verse today is, ” The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining brightly til the fullness of day. ” Proverbs 4:18. Isn’t it beautiful because the light is streaming in behind them to light the way.

Powerful Guardian

This guardian is a powerful protector of these children. This is a Catholic prayer card. No wonder we were taught to pray, ” Deliver us from evil. ”  The devil is a very real adversary. And serpents are representative of him and the are very real even in the spirit realm, you can pray and be delivered from them, and Jesus promised in Luke 10:17, that nothing would in any way harm you. Good News says He gives us safe passage through them. Most people have a fear of snakes, so we avoid them.

Unfortunately, as a believer we are a target, and need our Lord and angels to protect us. By His Spirit, He will walk us through. Fear, or caution is one thing. Fear to excess is a lie of the devil. I prayed last week for a toddler bitten by a baby rattler, It turns out they are more dangerous, they inject all their venom at once. He had 28 vials of anti venom, and thankfully did not lose his hand, arm or life.

Many people operating in spiritual gifts may see them in the spirit, but they can be bound, cast out, even in dreams and visions. Many times the snake will represent a lie, but ask the Holy Spirit to give you the gift of discernment as to trying spirits, for they can also be constrictors and even python or divination.

Psalm 91 also promises we will tread over them. That is why we need Jesus, salvation, and His promise of angelic protection and divine intervention. Rebecca Jones
