On Angel's Wings

Angel with eyes looking to heaven,

Have you seen the Savior, break the bread?

Were you there when He was crucified?

Raised from the dead?

Does your chalice hold wine for the wedding?

Are you preparing the Marriage Feast? For the bride?

For toward heaven we are heading,

Communion with our Lord,

Forever safe and loved, eternally at His side.

The Lord will welcome us with love,

And arms open wide.

Blessed Jesus, risen Lord,

Our beloved, moving toward.

May our Holy Communion with you,

Always be blessed,

And heaven or earth,

This is a painting of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, painted by El Greco, in 1612. While I wanted my whole month to be about guardian angels, I realize that we have Good Friday and and also Easter or Resurrection Day. I can post for the week, angels were in Gethsemane and all the way to the Ascension.

It dawned on me that Jesus also had guardian angels, angels were present at His birth, warned Joseph to leave and escape Herod. He also managed to avoid those who disliked and would have killed Him during His ministry. Even Gabriel came to Mary and they were there after He was tempted and here in Gethsemane. Notice in particular the disciples, El Greco captures them perfectly.

In  this link to him, Domenikos Theotokopolous, otherwise known as El Greco, you can read about the icon painter, who was considered a master by the age of twenty two. In the article you will see the Assumption of Mary and the Disrobing of Christ, two other outstanding pieces.

El Greco did arrive in Rome but Michelangelo  and Raphael had died already. The master artist even offered to paint over the work in the Sistine Chapel. While that might not have been his best idea, he was indeed a master.

Psalm 23 has been a topic of study lately, and indeed He will lead us beside still waters and restore our soul. This lovely angel is protecting a girl who has been picking flowers. The light of God is shining over her as she approaches even the smallest brook.

God has a way of protecting us from even the smallest of problems or worries if we will allow Him to. While angelic intervention is often unseen there will be times when it is a major occurrence in our lives. Being saved from or averting disaster will certainly be noticed.

But even on a daily basis, with so many things go on in our lives, we can easily be reminded of His protection from even small incidents. This brook isn’t very deep or wide for that matter and still the angel is watching. How many times a day to we actually just step over or walk through danger with angelic assistance and not even realize it?

What a lovely angel with folded hands and looking peaceful and lovely. We all should take a moment every day to thank God for our protection and for the work and presence of His guardian angels in our lives. No matter what we go through, they are there in response to prayer.

So spend a quiet afternoon, now and again. Who knows? You just may end up know how much God has protected you from with an angel unaware, while you were unaware.

That happened to me recently, with a dream that was more like a vision, I realized that I had been protected from someone I don’t think I ever even knew. The only girl I did know by that name was long gone, moved out of state and I don’t think she was a bad person.

And yet, I can look back and see how I loved people and tried to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and that is not always a good idea. You can be hurt trying to help others too much, so do what the Holy Spirit leads you too, and that;s all. You can’t fix things but He can. His peace Rebecca Jones

Melchior Paul von Deschwanden 1811 – 1881, a Swiss religious artist, isn’t this lovely, and angel watching over a sleeping child with a hat, so near a little stream. The painter from Switzerland never married and some of his first works were altarpieces. They are in the second link, along with another beautiful piece of art, the Christ Child.

In the third link, which is to some that were auctioned, is one of my favorite of his pieces, the Resurrection Angels. I may post that one individually as well. This guardian angel was done in 1859, and like many of his masterpieces, is glorious. He was an amazingly gifted artist, and this is a great example of a guardian and a sleeping child, even representing us as His children. Angel of peace,

Angel of prayer,

Did you know that that is what angel really means, messenger? This could possibly be Gabriel, he certainly was a messenger. And he is often depicted with lilies or flowers.

The Hebrew is malak or malach, and the Greek angelos. Angels are mentioned 300 times in Scripture and only absent from books such as Ruth, Nehemiah, Esther, the letters of John, and James.

Angels were there at creation, even called the sons of God, only a third fell, and they are innumerable and I believe could still be being created. They brought visions and dreams and appeared in person, with Jesus as the Angel of the Lord, in pre-incarnate form.

Even Balaam’s donkey recognized an angel. They also came and went upon Jacob’s ladder, which I personally believe is more of a stairway to heaven. The could both ascend and descend such ladders or stairs and still may be doing so.

Angels are not the object of worship and come in answer many times to prayer, but Daniel’s angel was delayed by a higher ranking spirit and he needed Michael to help him. So sometimes prayers are delayed because of spiritual warfare. And sometimes, just so He can make it beautiful.

Angels do have ranks and orders, from guardian to Archangel, though lists may vary. And there are thrones, dominions, rulers of darkness, wickedness in high places. Angels are over cities and towns, like Michael is over Jerusalem.

Jesus was arrested and stated that legions, up to 72,000 were ready at His command, He could have called them but did not in order to save us. They ministered to Him many times, two of which are noted after His temptations and when He was in Gethsemane.

Guide her through the world below.

Gentle angel, for the times of trial.

A gentle touch, a loving smile.

Send by God to show His care.

A reminder of a whispered prayer.

There are times when could use a little prod,

But many, more the hand of God.

Warm and gentle, like the angelic embrace,

A constant reminder of amazing grace.

He holds us firmly in the palm of His hand,

Lifts us up, helps us stand.

A gentle angel and a gentle Lord on high,

A guardian’s care,

He places us there.

In the angels hands,

He gives  the commands.

They protect us,

Guarding every fall.

Fending off evil,

And that isn’t all.

They are there at a moment’s notice,

In answer to prayer.

Every child of God,

In a guardian’s care.

Forever loved by God,

Our heavenly Father,

Who gives His Spirit, gave His Son,

Sending angels is no bother,

Rather, a blessing He will share, and one,

Placing us in our guardian’s care.
