On Angel's Wings

I don’t know the origin of this magnificent angel, apparently it is a detail from  larger painting or perhaps mural. I will try to find out. But isn’t he spectacular? With a firm stance and  upturned hand is he giving a message or moving along some threat, either way this is a good depiction of the authority  of God’s commanded angels.

This painting of two praying angels by Jacopo Palma Giovanni is lovely. Arm folded in graceful repose they are simple and delicate, yet elegant. I love the soft muted tones their clothing. It hangs in the National Trust.

How lovely is this? The beautiful Mary is being told by Gabriel about the baby she conceive. Although the angel appears a little feminine, Gabriel was indeed the messenger and a lot of the se paintings tend to soften the features and give some curls.

This is by Italian artist Gido Reni and is from 1621. Join me this month for more angels.

This is a detail from the William Adolf Bouguereau painting, The Virgin With Angels from 1900, at the age of seventy five. Bouguereau was born in 1825 and passed on 1905. I have to admit, he is a favorite of mine, I love his angels.

This detail is amazing, the kneeling ones and standing, the hands and feet even fingers and toes, and the beautiful faces that surround Mary. These are from the lower left, I like details but I prefer to see a whole painting first. Here is the painting.

What a glorious wonder our Lord is! And He has charged His holy angels as guardians over us. In fact, He commands them concerning us. We, as believers have to certain of that and we can avoid harm and danger.

How many times have we been saved by guardian angels, one day we may know in heaven as we are allowed to judge them. I can promised you it is many more times that you even think or know.

God doesn’t

This is a painting of Jacob’s dream and the angels ascending and descending a ladder or possibly stairs. He poured oil on the rock and promised God a tithe if He stayed with him. He would later work seven years for Rachel and end up with Leah, and work another seven years for her.

God did not intend plural marriages nor close family ones, but promised Jacob descendants and those descendants became the tribes of Israel. It is a type of kinsman redeemer story, until Laban tricked him and there was deceit on his part later. People then were under grace as we are now, though they did not have the Spirit like we do as believers.

Oh, what a wonderful Gustave Dore painting of Jesus ascending with myriads of angels surrounding Hi, What joy it will be to see Him and His holy angels one glorious day. Dore painted many Biblical scenes and they were very popular. He began drawing at the age of five and was considered a prodigy, born in France in 1832, he died at the age of fifty one in 1883.

He never married, living with his mother, after his father died and had illustrated many books, for top authors including Lord Byron, also a French version of Cervantes Don Quixote, and Poe’s , The Raven. He also had an art exhibit on Bond Street in London, that was quite successful.

Dore was also a sculptor  and engraver and left many works of art.
