This is another painting by Simon Vouet, it is supposed to represent the concept of wealth or riches. Indeed, we are rich in spirit to have angels working on our behalf. Painted in 1640, it hangs in the Louvre.

I hope you will enjoy this painting by Pau Delaroche from 1836 today.

Isn’t she lovely? A painting by Russian artist, Carl Timoleon Van Neff. He was commissioned to paint the daughters of Nicholas I, and did many paintings for the court, and some for churches, including Mary Magdalene.

Another Simon Vouet angel. Vouet was a French baroque painter who went to England, live in Italy fifteen years and used his wife, Virginia Vezzi, whom he wed in 1626, as a model for virgins and Madonnas.
He even did a self portrait. Vouet excelled in religious art. He brought the Italian baroque style back to France and opened a studio, where many of the new painters would study, appointed to paint for the king, he was loaded with orders.
He died in 1649 at the age of 59, he was buried in Paris in the church of Saint-Jean-en-Grève, which has now disappeared.

Isn’t she striking? Such a real life face, and her expression says it all. This angel is holding the bowl, though it looks like a chalice and she is ready to hand it Pontius Pilate or perhaps a servant of his, as the Bible doesn’t depict it that way.
She is sad knowing that he is about to wash his hands of the matter and that Jesus will be crucified, he did that so the Jews would recognize the custom. His wife was warned in a dream and told him Jesus was innocent, so he did not want the responsibility and the people chose to free Barabbas.
But no one could have taken His life, He gave it willingly to save us. Painting by Simon Vouet.

We are talking about His angels being flames of fire on my other blog but here we see them respectfully gathering around the altar, gathering at the Eucharist. Perhaps, these just came on the winds.
Let all God’s angels worship Him. Of the angels He says, “He makes His angels winds, and His ministers a flame of fire. ” Hebrews 1:6,7

What lovely vintage angels whether from a calendar or postcard, even an old Bible, I am using them in coordinating several blogs today and here is the verse.
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Luke 15:7

Isn’t she lovely? I found several of these in oval frames and will a them from time to time.

Since Gabriel is often picture with lilies this is possibly a painting of him. Sometimes I am just unable to locate an artist. But isn’t he strong and commanding but gentle enough to have visited Mary with the annunciation. And he could make the doubtful Zacharias mute as well.
