Another Simon Vouet angel. Vouet was a French baroque painter who went to England, live in Italy fifteen years and used his wife, Virginia Vezzi, whom he wed in 1626, as a model for virgins and Madonnas.
He even did a self portrait. Vouet excelled in religious art. He brought the Italian baroque style back to France and opened a studio, where many of the new painters would study, appointed to paint for the king, he was loaded with orders.
He died in 1649 at the age of 59, he was buried in Paris in the church of Saint-Jean-en-Grève, which has now disappeared.
